Frequently asked questions
How the directory works, what badges mean, and what membership does and doesn't include.
For homeowners
- Does it cost anything to find a pro?
- No. Searching the directory and reading listings are free for homeowners, and no account is required to browse. You contact the business directly using the details on its profile.
- Can I send a project request through the site?
- Not yet. Online project requests aren't available. Contact the business by phone or through its website, as listed on its profile. We do not sell, resell, or broker homeowner contact details.
- What does 'verified' actually mean?
- Each badge means Sleeves Up staff reviewed documents the business submitted for that credential — for example a trade license, a certificate of insurance, or proof of veteran ownership — and approved them on the date shown. It is not a guarantee of workmanship, price, coverage amounts, or that the credential is still current; confirm license and insurance status with the business before you hire.
- Who am I contracting with?
- The member business, directly. Sleeves Up. Builders is not a party to your agreement and does not set pricing, schedule, or scope.
- Can I leave a review?
- If a Home Repair Pro you hired invites you, yes: the email has a link to leave one review; the link works once and expires after 30 days. Invited reviews are labelled “Invited by business”, and Sleeves Up staff check every review before it's published. Businesses can respond publicly but can't edit or delete reviews on their own listing, and they may not offer anything in return for a review.
- A listing looks wrong. What do I do?
- Report it through the Contact page and tell us which listing and what looks wrong. We will re-review the documents behind it. Listings that fail re-review can be suspended.
For member businesses & schools
- Who can become a member?
- Two kinds of members: Home Repair Pros (independent veteran-owned residential trade businesses, listed in the Home Repair Network) and Schools (residential-construction and trade schools that train veterans, listed in the school directory). Sign-up starts on the Join page, where you choose which one you are.
- What does membership cost?
- Three placeholder tiers during launch: Basic $50, Plus $70, and Premium $100 per month. Membership is request-only during launch: no payment is taken and billing will start later. There are no per-lead charges, commissions, or job fees on any plan.
- What is different between the plans?
- The tiers are placeholders while we launch, and what each one includes will be confirmed before billing starts. The directory listing itself works the same way on every plan, and the plan you choose never changes your directory position, badges, or ratings.
- Does membership affect my search ranking or badges?
- No. Membership never changes search order, verification badges, or ratings. See how ranking works for the details.
- Do I pay before I'm approved?
- No. You choose a plan as part of your application, but no payment is taken and no card details are collected during launch. There is no checkout and no free trial; billing will start later, and members will be told before it does.
- How long does review take?
- A reviewer checks your documents against your listing claims. If something does not line up we come back with a request for more information rather than rejecting outright.
- When does my listing go live?
- After staff review your application and an admin approves it and activates your membership. Your listing then appears in the right directory: the Home Repair Network for businesses, or the school directory for schools.
- Do I need an account?
- Yes. Create an account and confirm your email, then fill in your basics, upload your credentials, choose a plan, and review and submit your application.
- Do you run background checks?
- No. Sleeves Up doesn't run background checks, and there is no paid screening add-on.
- Can I cancel?
- Nothing is billed during launch. You can withdraw a membership request at any time. Cancellation terms will be published before billing starts.
About the company
- Is Sleeves Up. Builders a nonprofit?
- No. It is a for-profit company that operates a paid membership directory.
- Do you employ or place the people listed?
- No. Sleeves Up. Builders does not employ, contract, train, place, assign, supervise, or hire anyone in the directory. Every listing is an independent business.
- Is the Licensing Navigator legal advice?
- No. The Licensing Navigator and the apprenticeship and certification material are informational only. Each state entry links to that state's official licensing authority; verify licensing requirements with the relevant state board and VA benefit eligibility with the VA.
- Do you have to be a veteran to be listed?
- The network is for veteran-owned businesses and the trade schools that train veterans. Veteran ownership is reviewed as part of a business's application.
